Food Waay Too Close 1
There’s something incredibly disgusting about food photos that are taken waay to close… So of course, I will not only share them, I will embrace them.

Vegan BBQ Pulled Chicken Mini Pot Pie
I found a new treat at Trader Joe’s—Chicken-less Pulled Chicken in Barbecue Sauce.  For the love of God, though not a perfect substitute, this vegan/meatless product is very good… so, let’s make a pot-pie with it:

Mini Tofu Pot Pie
I was really excited to make this…and I think it looks good…but it was kinda yucky.  I followed a recipe found online and…blech.  The culprit was the sauce. SO, I will go ahead and post the pretty picture because I know a lot of you don’t read this anyway. :) Oh, but the crust was perfect.  Yay Trader Joe’s.

Tofu Broccoli and Cheddar Mini (Christmas) Quiche
I got an extraordinarily thoughtful Christmas gift from someone very dear to me: a Breville Pie Maker.  Oh goodness…I am beside myself with excitement; a whole new arena of possibility!  And I Looove pie!  Almost as much as waffles.  Maybe more.  Wait, did I say that? So what will I be doing this long weekend?  Well, making lots of little pies.  First mini pie lab: Tofu, broccoli and...

Waffled Latkes. Waftkes?
Hanukkah begins at sunset, this Tuesday, December 20th.  Bring on the latkes and dreidel! Last year I had the supreme privilege of celebrating Hanukkah with an incredibly lovely group of people.  The experience was moving in many regards, and the warm feelings of family and tradition still resonate in my mind.  Out of the many memories, one of the most delicious ones was Elyn’s...

Vegetarian Pressure Cooker Chili with Waffled...
There’s nothing like chili on a chilly day.  It can certainly be worth the time and effort in preparing, but when done in a pressure cooker, it’s incredibly simple and flavorful, and ready to warm the tummy in a ridiculously short amount of time.  Being someone who prefers to cook her own beans, it adds a whopping 2 minutes to the process, plus the act of pressure cooking...

Waffled Grilled Cheese: Fig, Caramelized Onion and...
I cannot believe it took me this long to finally waffle a grilled cheese sandwich, but today was the day: Buttered Demi Miche, Dalmati Fig Spread, oven caramelized onions and Tintern Welsch Cheddar with chives and shallots. The Demi Miche is dense, rustic and a bit sour.  The Tintern Welsch Cheddar with chives and shallots (found at Trader Joe’s) is semi-firm like Feta, sharp yet...

Thanksgiving Leftover Mashed Potato Waffles
I really didn’t think I would have the inclination to craft a post this week, certainly not because of a lack of photographs, but just because…whatever.  However!  I had leftover Thanksgiving garlic mashed potatoes that just didn’t taste good cold so I decided to waffle it (them?).  Yeah.  And it was good.  Like better-than-potato-cake good.  Crispy, covered in dill and olive...

I posted about this about a year and a half ago, but it’s certainly worth a repost: Creative photo series by Fulvio Bonavia features belts, earrings, rings, headphones, shoes, and handbags made out of food. An award-winning Italian photographer created these delicious images for his fashion photography book titled “A Matter of Taste”.

The Great Waffini - Waffled Panini
Dang those tomatoes are RED! While shopping in the art supply, I mean grocery store, I came across a nifty little contraption made by Wonder Bread that both cuts the crust off and seals the sandwich (if not too thick).  Cute!  Not cute enough though, so…had to waffle it. I prepared two different Waffini’s: Pastrami with cinnamon dusted Toscano cheese and an almond butter and...

Jell-O Waffles: Jell-Offles. Waffell-O.
I’ve been a little obsessed with making Jell-O waffles for the past few months, so much so that I was on the brink of making my own molds.  But in a kind act from a force much more powerful than anything, ever, I came across the perfect pan: an ice cream sandwich pan made by Nordic Ware.  Ooooh, a new waffle apparatus! It took me a few tries to get it right, but behold: Orange and Lime...

Waffled Polenta with Pesto and Roasted Asparagus
Time for Waffle Lab!  Mmm, what’s on the menu?  How about homemade pesto, roasted asparagus with Salish smoked sea salt and waffled polenta? Polentffles? Excellent…  P.S. Life is awesome. Yep. As always, the dandy divots served their purpose: sauce receptacles of joy.  Waffling the polenta made it lightly crunchy on the outside yet retained the soft center.  The pesto, made with...

If there was ever a day for whippin’ up some YAY it would be today; an inspired celebratory YAY for life perkin’ right up. Gratitude runs deep. Calzaffle vs. Pan Pizza
I’ve wanted to bake a pan pizza in a cast iron skillet for some time and decided it was high time I did so.  Seeing as I am the only one who was going to eat this massive amount of dough, I decided to also waffle a calzone and compare the two.  Bypass a potential waffling?  Nooooo. I got some pre-made dough from Whole Foods (sorry Trader Joe’s, but this one is better) and brought...

Ground Cow & Waffled Potato Cake
My Friday afternoon priority: Hamburger….. and an expensive one. From Higgins. Yup. ($14!) When it arrived, my mouth opened a little with salivatory awe; it was beautiful!   I eagerly sank my teeth into the toasted hearth-baked roll and through the thick, juicy, flavorful burger.  Very nom.   BUT, a few bites in I realize something’s missing.  No fries.  Bummer!  I am told they...

PBJ's - NW Portland
Three weeks back in Portland; on my own for the first time in nearly 11 years.  What will I do?  I will eat! I will travel! I will waffle! I will tackle those things I’ve never quite done before as this time is an extraordinary gift, AND I will use many exclamation points! Maybe. Maybe not! One of my many endeavors is to visit a different food cart each week.  First stop: PBJ’s...

Quite an extraordinary weekend.  I see and feel transformation.  Transformation of me, of life, of relationships, of my blog.  While food is certainly the main subject of my blog, I now see that it is time to shift a bit…as I am shifting.  I kinda feel like I am going through my own Eat, Pray, Love. This was a weekend of great perspective and a new avenue of thought.  New possibilities introduced...

Happy Birthday To Both Of Us:
Both of us = me (May 14) and Lisa’s Culinary Atrocities (April 26).  A year already!  Wow. I considered doing a bloggie year in review, but it is so absurdly extensive, riddled with great joy, debilitating anguish, and unfathomable transformation, that I’m simply not sure I can or should do it.  I can say, however, that I never expected that a year after starting my blog I would be...
